Childless vs childfree? It's a spectrum, not an either/or.I know there are women out there who will lay claim to the word "childless". And they might say that if you didn't try or try hard enough to have kids, you shouldn't be using the word to describe your circumstances.Some would say that getting it wrong invalidates the grief that a "childless" woman feels. It's "insensitive".What do I see in my practice?Terminology doesn't validate pain. Empathy does. Compassion does. Another person does. You do, yourself.It doesn't matter what others label you. Nor does it matter what other childfree/less women label themselves. It's the actions they take to validate your pain. It's the way you hold compassion for your own pain.Look for the people in your life who know how to do that.And then, can we just let go of the terminology once and for all? Here's what most people don't talk about...if you're finding it hard to find purpose, there's something standing in the way.Grief is often a factor but fully processing grief does not guarantee that your purpose will just unfold.You must break free of pronatalism. The patriarchy and pronatalism have conditioned you to believe that your primary purpose is to be a mother. When you let go of this belief (because it's not true), you'll be more free to discover what makes you feel fulfilled.You must align to what your soul is nudging you towards. Call it intuition, inspiration, a gut feeling. It's this feeling that is showing you what to move toward.
